Anacortes Patron of the Arts
The Festival is honoring Phyllis Luvera Ennes as the 2008 Patron of the Arts. Phyllis was born and raised in Anacortes, and has dedicated her life to teaching, writing, and community service in the arts.
From 1973 until 1993, she was the founding Cultural Education Director of the Anacortes School District. During those years she also taught speech, theater and library arts to Anacortes students. For her work on behalf of arts education, she received numerous awards including the Walter A. Brodniak Cultural Award in 2004. She was also involved as Editor and Advisor for numerous student publications throughout her career, and served in various roles with the Washington Alliance for Arts Education.
In addition to her career in education, Ennis served on the Anacortes Arts and Crafts Festival Board, acting as both Secretary and Children's Programs Coordinator. She has been involved in the Anacortes Public Library Art Committee and Foundation and Anacortes Youth Arts. Phyllis authored a book titled From the End of 9th Street in 2006, and has both written and edited for numerous publications.
Phyllis views Anacortes as a community that supports the arts and has dedicated her energies to helping incorporate the arts into the fabric of Fidalgo Island. The Festival is honored to recognize her extensive contributions.
