2008 Art Awards

Because our mission includes supporting artists, the Festival started a program in 2007 called "Anacortes Collects" that places artwork in public and corporate collections. The two-to-one matching-funds program provides up to $15,000 yearly for the purchase of work from Art at the Port exhibits.

Two additional corporate awards totaling $1,500 are also presented. They include

  • $1,000 Peoples Choice sponsored by Peoples Bank - selected by votes from attendees of the exhibit
  • $500 T. Bailey Award - sponsored and selected by a representative of T. Bailey Inc.

The Anacortes Arts Festival has a new Art at the Port program titled Anacortes Collects that awards up to $5,000 in Festival fine art award money with community partner matching funds to place artwork in public or semi-public places. This year's partners are Island Hospital and The Anacortes American.

The Anacortes American purchased 3 Lewis Jones polaroid transfer photographs depicting images from Anacortes.

Island Hospital chose two Jack Gunter oil paintings, titled "Basket Painting #23" and "A View from Rose Point" to hang in the new hospital facility. "A View from Rose Point" was painted from a historic Anacortes photo from the Wallie Funk collection.
