Special Event - April 29, 2011

Alash Ensemble come from the little known Republic of Tuva, bordered by Siberia to the north and Mongolia to the south with an equestrian culture influenced by shamanism. Throat singing or Xoomei accomplishes multiple pitches at the same time. While imitating sounds from nature, the music is both haunting and engaging.
Songs are accompanied by traditional and modern string and percussive instruments. Although, traditionally trained they claim musical influences from Sun Ra and Jimi Hendrix!
The Anacortes Arts Festival proudly presents the Tuvan throat singers and instrumentalists Alash Ensemble in a rare West coast performance on April 29th at 7:30 pm at Brodniak Hall in Anacortes. (Directions below)
Tickets are $15/$5 youth and available through Brown Paper Tickets or at the door.
